Quantopia: Developing a Visual Path from Bit to Qubit

Abstract:

Amount Awarded: $23,500

The project is in the intersection of art, data visualization, and science communication. During Roger Antonsen's sabbatical as a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley, he started collaborating with Greg Niemeyer on a major art and data visualization project, partly funded by the Hewlett Foundation and commissioned by the Internet Archive. This goal of the project is to create the interactive, artistic visualizations for a hip-hop symphony. The novel symphony is called Quantopia, and it is composed by Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky. Funding from the Peder Sather Grant Program will allow us to continue and expand this collaboration until the finished work is presented during the spring of 2019, and crucially will allow students in Berkeley and Oslo to engage younger youth groups in Oakland and Oslo in expression through data and networks.
