"Rule of Law in the Context of Culture" is a research collaboration in the interdisciplinary field of law and humanities. We are interested in exploring rule of law not only as a normative infrastructure embedded in founding documents and institutions but also to a mentality, or more accurately, a loose collection of attitudes, values, and ways of perceiving the world that are sometimes included in the stories we tell about origins and national destinies and other times experienced without being explicitly articulated. Our members include faculty from UiT the Arctic University of Norway, UC Berkeley, and the University of Hong Kong. We are organizing two workshops in Tromsø and in Berkeley, which will include public presentations as well as closed working sessions. These workshops will result in two separate co-edited special issues of the journals Law and Literature and Humanities.
