Stability, Hyperbolicity, and the geometry of zeros of polynomials

This project focused on two concepts related to polynomials, namely stability and hyperbolicity. These notions are foundational and have shown far-reaching implications across various domains of mathematics and theoretical computer science. With this project, we aim to expand our comprehension of hyperbolic and stable multivariate polynomials and to uncover new foundational results that promise to innovate in matrix and operator theory, combinatorics, and theoretical computer science. In tackling open problems related to the geometry of zeros of polynomials we furthermore aim to foster a lasting collaboration between UC Berkeley and the Lie-Størmer Center at UiT in Tromsø. Utilizing the Sather Grant and resources from the Lie-Størmer Center, the project will organize a summer school in Tromsø and an international conference at the Simons Institute in Berkeley to cultivate a vibrant educational exchange and propel forward scientific collaboration and innovation.
