In an era marked by technological evolution, alliance shifts, and great power competition, the Arctic region emerges as a focal point of opportunity and risk. This joint project between the Oslo Nuclear Project (ONP) and the Berkeley Risk and Security Lab (BRSL) aims to analyze NATO-Russia relations in the Arctic and their implications for regional security. Key questions the project aims to examine include conditions for conflict escalation, impacts of Russian force posture changes, and governance mechanisms for risk mitigation. Through novel theoretical approaches and the employment of advanced political science research methods, BRSL and ONP seek to advance the scholarly debate on the subject, while producing policy-relevant outputs that help decision-makers navigate the Arctic region.
